Beorn is a new character in chapter 7. He is a skin-changer. According to the book, “He changes his skin: sometimes he is a huge black bear, sometimes he is a great strong black-haired man with huge arms and a great beard.”(Page 127) Compare to human, he is too much more easy-tempered, and compare to a bear, he never eats his horses or wild animals. He eats almost only cream and honey. Some people say that he is a bear descended from the great and ancient bears, and other people say that he is a man descended from the first men who lived before the dragons and the goblins came. Gandalf said that he think the last one is the true tale. Anyway, he is a very mysterious person who ‘is under no enchantment but his own.’(Page 127)
I think he is a kind person, and not so easy-tempered. He helped Gandalf, Bilbo and their companions for their food and places to sleep. Although he wasn’t glad to see dwarves when they came to his house, he didn’t get angry about this, and helped them. He is so nice. I like the part that Gandalf was telling about their journey to Beorn, because this part is full of humorous. Gandalf was so clever to make dwarves to come two by two.
Beorn always lived as a man. He became a bear only at night. He became a great bear when he went to see Wargs and the goblins. When the dwarves and the company were borrowing his ponies to cross the forest, he was there too. He wanted to see his ponies are all right and protect them. Beorn was an important person for Bilbo and the company.
