I began going to an English youth church activities last Saturday, and I met many new friends there. Let me talk about this today~
My mom told me about this Christian meet. I’ve been this sort of meeting but they were all Chinese one, so this time was the first time that I joined the English one. The Chinese one is in summer holidays now so I tried English one today. Actually, everyone in both the Chinese one and the English one are foreign nationalities. One of my friend Keisuke was also going there.
First, when we get there, two guys came to us very friendly. We introduced to each other. There were about 20 or more high school students and college students there. Then we played a game to know each other. Today’s game was interesting. First, pick someone and ask that one to be in the outside of the room so that we can talk about let’s be the person in our left when that person asked us questions or something like that, but of course the person doesn’t in the room doesn’t know that. He or she has to find out what’s happening to us by asking questions. The girl who was picked today was Jennifer. She asked us our nationalities. When she asked an American boy in my right side, he said Japan. That was so funny but it’s hard to find out our rule. After another girl came to help Jennifer, and asked our clothes’ color, they made it. This game was good for remembering each other.
Then we sang some worship songs. The songs were all new for us, but they sounded good. A keyboard player, a guitar player and a boy who plays an instrument that sounds like drum leaded our entire singing time. That was so cool. Well, after that a young man who is about 30 years old talked a lot of things about bible and worship. All of those were English, so some of them were hard to understand and I felt a little bit sleepy… The guy who talked can also play guitar, and he sang with his guitar for about half an hour. After all of these, we heard about that they usually go to have dinner together every time so that I and Keisuke decided to go with them too. And that was the beginning of the most interesting part, and the time that I made lots of friends.
We took subway and went to Jinan Temple, because they knew a nice Mexican restaurant there. I talked with a Chinese girl come from US. She came to this meet for the first time too, but I’m poor at remembering names, so I forgot… She said that she came to the meet because her brother has been coming there, and she cannot speak Chinese. Another girl I talked when we were in subway was an American girl. She’s been in China since she was a little, and went a local kindergarten in Shanghai, so she can speak Chinese. Her Chinese was great and we talked a lot in Chinese. That was funny to talk with a foreigner in Chinese hahaha. When we got to the restaurant, I only bought a cup of juice, because I’ve been so thirsty since I left my home before the meet… I drank a lot and couldn’t feel hungry after that… I talked with Jennifer during all of our friends were eating their delicious Mexican food. I found that she’s also from Beijing. She’s a nice girl~
Jennifer and all the girls except me and the Chinese girl come from US who I mentioned before, went to sleepover in someone’s home, so the rest of boys and we two decided to stay for a moment more and play some card games. The rule was this. There are 8 levels, and the greatest is level 0. Everyone get four cards and starts from level 0. Say “Go” and start passing a card you don’t need, to collet four same numbered-card. If you got four same number cards, you touch your nose. If you saw someone touching his or her nose, you touch your nose. The last person who touched nose becomes one bigger level. If you talked to anyone in bigger level than you, you’ll be up to the same level that person was in, so the ones in big levels will try to talk to others and cheat them. The first one became level 7 loses. I played this game for the first time, but it was interesting! I could became friends with some boys there because of this game. We played this game for about an hour or two hours or more, anyway until ten o’clock!!! The time passed so fast hahaha. Finally two boys who are level 7 did penalties. One did push-ups 20 times on the table, and another did it in the center of the hall. We all took pictures but clapped our hands. That was really good time. I think the time after dinner was the funniest part of that day.
Well, I’ve been talking about all scenes, but the thing I want to say the most is about making friends. They were all really friendly, nice, and kind. Fond of helping and talking to new people, and it’s hard to explain but they were something different to others. I’d like to join them from now on.
Another thing a realized is that my English is REALLY not enough. They all native speakers. This can be my driving force for improving English. I’m happy having such a good experience last Saturday.
