I began going to a jazz music theory class. Including me, there are four people. Actually, three of us are from U.S. high school class 9B!!! That’s Jun, Janice, and I. Isn’t interesting? Haha. Another one except us is Tommy, one of our bandmates.
We learned so much things in this class, such as scale and chords. First, our teacher gave us a quiz to know how much we know about jazz theory, but we knew nothing… so we started from basic knowledge. I remember that the first thing we learned in class is “interval”. Interval means the distance between two notes. We practiced guessing interval by listening to the two notes for a long time. It was hard to get answer by ears. To make this easier we have to sing the notes out, and find out the distance between the two. After that, I remember that we learned seventh chords and scale. Seventh chord means there are four notes. There are five types of seventh chord. Major, minor, dominant, ha-f diminished, and diminished. A good way to remember how to make these chords is remembering the intervals of each notes.
We learned a lot of things in this jazz theory class, and they were all interesting and funny. I heard that there is one more time in September, so I hope we can learn together again.
