Today was a sunny hot day~! And today was my first live in my life~! I’ve been a member of a jazz band since April. I’m in charge of keyboard. There are 9 members---2 guitarists, a bass player, a drummer, a trombone, a flute, a clarinet, a saxophone, and a keyboard in our band. Most of us are from international high schools, and two of us are foreigners. We played 3 songs. “Cold Duck Time”, “C-jam blues”, and “So What” They are all amazing.
The live was at a café near Huangpu River. The sunshine was so bright but the breeze was very comfortable. There were a lot of Japanese. Actually the bands beside ours are almost all Japanese bands. We only could listen to other bands’ performances for a little bit because of time, but they were so good! Although I’ve never listened to the songs that they played, I enjoyed a lot. I like Japanese songs’ melody very much as they make me feel good. If they sang the songs I know, I would be soooo happy and sing with them, haha.
By the way, our performance was the second one of the all. Well, I think I did fine as it’s my first live, but I also think there are lots of things I have to review and reflect. The solo part is the hardest of all. Solo means a player plays whatever he/she wants, but only in the true scales. The player cannot only play in scales, but also should make the solo part sounds good and like jazz. I think it’s very difficult. Actually, I’ve not heard about this since I come to this band, so I only know a little about scales and codes. I’ll work hard to study about jazz and keyboard, and then try to practice playing good solos!!
I also recommend you guys to try to listen to some jazz music!! You bet you will like them!
