Teenagers often faces difficulties when turning into adults, because like in the book The Catcher in the Rye, they don’t want changes, and are fear of unknown future.
For me, becoming an adult means that you can take care of yourself, and make your own decisions. Also, we have to be responsible as well. I don’t think myself as an adult, because I can’t take all cares by myself and make all the best decisions. Now I’m so dependent on others, such as teachers, friends, and especially parents. We can’t not depend on others at this age because we are not able to earn money yet, so need to get money from our parents. Additionally, we don’t have many rights that adults have.
When I think I would be a grown-up is after graduating from college, and live by my own. More abstractly, when I meet more difficulties that have to be solved only by myself, I think I would be an adult. When that time comes, I will know it when I feel I’m less dependent on others, when others such as school teachers, friends, and parents begin to see me in a different way, provide less help and advices.
I am afraid of becoming an adult, because I can’t and don’t want to imagine all the responsibilities, stress, and failures I might experience. But I’m actually a little bit looking forward to growing up because I’m curious about the unknown future, and want to try new stuffs. When being a child, we can make mistakes without being blamed so hard, and we’re allowed to be ignorant, but being an adult, we have to be responsible for everything we do and say, and have more complicated thoughts, relationships, and troubles around us.
Although struggle between childhood and adulthood, ones must become adults someday. So we have to prepare for it the earlier the better. We could develop our leaderships in order to experience responsibilities and stress, we could do part time jobs to understand how money come from hard work and how we should value it, and so on. I hope we can all become a successful adult.
